Protfolio for Movement Behavior Analysis and Profiling: Observing Qualitative Differences in Dance Performance

This is a portfolio of work from my first explorations into Movement Behavior Analysis and Profiling with Thomas K. Hagood Ph.D. through National Dance Educator's Organization online learning OPDI 124 course.

I have included a video showcase, links to assignments, and feedback.

When reflecting on the potential applications of MBA/P principles and strategies in performance, choreography, and/or teaching dance, my mind first goest to choreography. I can see how matching choreographers to dancers by looking at their preferred movement styles could help with successfully creating the choreographer's vision. I would also like to explore grouping student dancers based on their proclivities to complete a movement based task. To take it one step further, I would also like to create a piece out of multiple tasks and toggle between the different movement style groups. The movement would be different but I think it would be more than that. Would the music change, or maybe just how the music is played? Would the lights change?

For teaching dance I see MBA/P as a tool to more effectively communicate to students. It is a vocabulary that can be easily learned and shared. Together, we could practise using the terminology and in turn, we would become more efficient with our observations of each other. We could describe more effectively areas of strength and weakness. Perhaps, even helping the students to explore areas of movement that they would normally avoid.
